Unit 1: It looks as if they are crying ....

Hello everyone:

Last day, when talking about the painting on pg. 10 in your books, we revised structures used after the verbs of the senses.

Have a look at these links for more info:

* Adjectives (sensory words)
* Adjective QUIZ
* Structures after "LOOK, FEEL, SOUND, SMELL, TASTE"

UNIT 1: THE ARTS

Last day we discussed about the picture above. This is a picture by Edward Munch and its name is "ASHES". Do you want to now about the story behind this picture? If so, read this information taken from the web totallyhistory.com :

Ashes by Edvard Munch was finished in 1894. It is made with oil on canvas and is 120.5 x 141 cm in size. It is an expressionism styled painting that is on display at the National Gallery in Oslo.

Background

Munch had a short affair with the wife of a distant cousin, her name was Millie Thaulow. The woman in this painting resembles her and is located in the woods, where the two would meet.

Appearance

A woman with long red hair is facing straight forward with her white dress unbuttoned to show her red slip underneath. She is holding her head in turmoil and has a look of despair. There is a man on the bottom right hand corner, but he is holding his head and cannot be identified. They are situated in the dark woods with different items strewn around on the ground around them.
It is apparent these two are lovers who are going through a time of difficulty.

Tomorrow our language assistant, Kerrin, is coming and I want you to prepare a short presentation of a picture you really like. To hepl you, have a look at these two videos showing different styles and types of paintings.

Hope it helps!
See you tomorrow morning

This is a sentence taken from a speech given by an American University Professor called Joey Walker.
Listen to his speech and try to complete the activity proposed.
